NASA FIRMS detects thermal anomalies that may include vegetation fires, agricultural burning or industrial heat. Each record describes a satellite fire-pixel observation, not a verified incident or burned area. The same fire may appear in many pixels and overpasses.
Nominal and high confidence are included; low confidence is excluded. Original coordinates are shown without merging nearby points. Repeated downloads replace the same source/date records, preventing duplicate ingestion. NOAA-20 and NOAA-21 counts and daily baselines stay separate. Missing source-days are unavailable, never zero-filled. Comparisons do not normalize for clouds, smoke, overpass sampling or instrument outages; lower detection counts alone do not establish environmental improvement.
